High speed pursuit from Benton County Line toward Newport on Highway 20 – Fugitives nabbed late Monday.
Tuesday Update: Reports say that the two fugitives were located late last night walking along Highway 20 and taken into custody. The initial attempt to pull the two over occurred in Philomath, so we’re awaiting further details from them. But the two are off the street.
5:20pm Monday – Several law enforcement units are in pursuit of a car that is running from them, headed west on Highway 20, now at milepost 32, at around 100mph. The original reason for the stop was a traffic violation.
Law enforcement from the coast are headed east in an effort to intercept the vehicle, said to be driven by a female driver. Due to the general low priority of the original stop, officers may determine the chase is not worth the original ticket, especially due to the danger to other motorists on the highway. The vehicle is a Saturn which would likely stay on regular paved roads.
Car high speed westbound at milepost 20. Still doing around 100mph.
Vehicle license plate: VNY 231. Something was thrown from the vehicle.
Now at milepost 16.
5:32pm – Vehicle may have exited Highway 20 at Chitwood…pulled off highway. 64 Chitwood Road resident called saying they saw them go by on their road.
5:38pm – Male in the car is believed to be a concealed weapon carrier. Car registered to a couple out of Monmouth.
5:41pm – They have found the vehicle. Red older model Saturn.
5:45pm – Fleeing couple have abandoned their car on Chitwood Road. They are in the area on foot.
6:18pm – Law enforcement is combing the new Highway 20 construction area looking for the couple. Heavy woods. Female described as sandy blonde hair and dark clothing. Man is wearing stocking cap, red hair.
7:05pm – Search is still going on. But emergency status of 9-1-1 radio traffic has been downgraded to “normal.” Searchers will soon be running out of daylight.
7:16pm – Sounds like the search is “evolving.” Again, the original reason for the traffic stop was a minor traffic violation. There was a report earlier in the evening that something was thrown from the vehicle somewhere in the Eddyville area. No word if law enforcement found anything. It was also mentioned that the car had been recently sold. So the reference to a Monmouth address may no longer be relevant.
7:35pm – Search continuing with “additional assets.”
