Oregon House Speaker Tina Kotek has appointed State Rep. David Gomberg (D-Otis) to the board of the Oregon Ocean Science Trust. The Trust is empowered to receive private, public, and non-profit contributions and to spend that money on scientific research benefiting coastal Oregon.
“The Pacific Ocean is one of the most distinctive and precious resources in Oregon. It is especially critical to those of us who live along the coast. We need to have better information about the ocean if we are to preserve the resource for future generations,” Gomberg said. “I am pleased to be in a position to help fund promising research on challenging issues like acidification and fisheries management,” he added.
The trust was created in 2013 through legislation championed by Sen. Arnie Roblan (D-Coos Bay). Membership was expanded to include two State Legislators during the 2014 legislative session.
