Saturday May 17th 6-10PM is your opoortunity to take part in a community wide campaign to establish a trust fund for the children that Eric Eders left behind after he was swept from the aft area of the F/V Seeker just north of Umak Island in the Bering Sea.
It was March 12th when Eric disappeared into the icy waters, triggering a frantic search by the Seeker crew, other nearby boats and the Coast Guard – all to no avail. Eric was simply gone…disappearing into the inky dark 38 degree blackness of the ocean.
Eric left behind two boys and a lovely wife. Donations have helped to boost the family’s finances to a point where they can make it day to day. But Eric’s friends want to do more. They want a trust fund set up for his boys who will someday grow to be fine young men and who will need funds for whatever education or vocational pursuits they choose.
The fundraiser for Eric’s kids will take place Saturday, May 17th, 6-10pm at the Newport Elks Lodge. There’s no cover charge, so come on down! Rogue beer and J. Lohr wine is available at five bucks a glass and a full no host bar. Lots of music, finger foods, a silent auction for many great items, a raffle for a UFC V.I.P. package to Las Vegas, which includes a dinner with a fighter 50-50 raffle.
Transportation home from Eric’s fundraiser is provided free of charge by Gold and Toby Murry Motors. So there’s no excuse to leave on your own “over the limit.”
If you’re unable to attend, make your donations to Newport Fishermen’s Wives, P.O. Box 971, Newport, 97365.
