What to do when a stroke strikes…from PCH

When every minute counts: Know what to do when a stroke occurs

A quick response to the signs of a stroke can help prevent life-long disability.

A free seminar on stroke prevention will be held Thursday, May 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.

The seminar will be led by medical director for Samaritan Stroke Services, Richard Lafrance, MD, and AmieJoe Roper, RN, Samaritan Stroke Services program coordinator, who will share helpful information about how to prevent a stroke, recognize the signs and symptoms of a stroke and what to do if a stroke is suspected.

“A quick and coordinated response is key when it comes to stroke,” said Roper. “Time lost is brain lost, and patients, their family members, emergency responders and health care providers are all partners in responding to stroke. Learning to recognize the signs and signals and knowing what to do can make a huge difference. If you have concerns or a history of stroke in your family, do not miss this educational opportunity.”
