Newport: Man talked out of jumping from Yaquina Bay Bridge

Friday morning at approximately 6am, Newport Police Officers responded to the Yaquina Bay Bridge on a report of a man that appeared to be preparing to jump from the bridge into the water over 100 feet below. Several citizens called 9-1-1.
Upon arrival, Newport Police Officers found the man holding on to the outside of the railing. Newport Police Officers persuaded the man to climb back over the railing. The man stated he wanted help, and was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital for treatment and a mental health assessment.
