Jiah Quayle is a terrific guy that received some terrible news.
Homebuilder, little league and basketball coach, and volunteer firefighter, Jiah does his best to be a great father and loving husband. Father of four, husband, son, brother and friend, Jiah noticed a small lump on the bottom of his foot in September of 2013. By December, it was larger, and after X-rays, MRIs, and a biopsy, Jiah and his wife, Jamie, found out it is cancer.
The current situation is bad, but the doctors have hope.
The position and size of the cancer make it difficult to operate on, and there is a possibility that some microscopic part of the cancer will remain if doctors try to save his foot. Most of Jiah’s foot nerves, muscles and tendons are running through the middle of the cancer, so if only the cancer is removed, the nerves, muscles, and tendons are removed with it.
The best course of action for complete removal of the cancer is to remove the foot followed by chemotherapy. After the initial healing period from the surgery, Jiah will begin five cycles of chemotherapy (about fifteen weeks) to eliminate any remaining cancer cells from the rest of his body.
The road ahead is scary, but YOU can help in a BIG way.
The fight starts Thursday, April 24th, with the removal of Jiah’s left foot. The next steps will be healing, chemotherapy, and the road to recovery including a prosthetic foot for each stage of recovery ending in a final set of prosthetic feet for different uses. Science and technology have made some incredible advances in prosthetic feet, but they sure are expensive!
Jiah and his wife, Jamie, have four beautiful children: two boys and two girls. The children have taken it the hardest, but they know that with a tremendous amount of love and support, their dad will be back to coaching little league in no time. Jiah is extremely involved in their lives, and is an important part of the community by serving as a volunteer firefighter with Central Oregon Coast Fire and Rescue. Jiah is inspired by the recent story of the Maryland volunteer firefighter that returned to work eight months after having his leg amputated below the knee. If he can do it, so can Jiah!
The exciting news is that Jiah and Jamie are expecting a child. During this time of great difficulty, the beautiful announcement of a new baby brings great joy to their family and friends.
YOU can help!
Based on information we have gathered from medical experts and Jiah’s insurance, we believe that in order to give Jiah the best chance at recovery and quality of life, we need to raise a great deal more than our initial goal of $30,000. We appreciate any amount that you are able to donate. Every little bit helps us get closer to our goal of Jiah’s complete recovery, and eventual return to firefighting with Central Oregon Coast Fire and Rescue.
Please help us spread the word to people who would like to support Jiah and his family. THANK YOU for your love and kindness!
