Nelscott businesses getting new parking lot to cope with 101 improvements
Knowing that a nearby parking lot will soon be taken over by ODOT contactors at SW 32nd and 101, the Lincoln City City Council hired a contractor Monday
to build a brand new parking lot for the businesses a little to the south at SW 35th. The new lot will help soften the financial bruising some of the Nelscott@101 businesses are expected to suffer during the widening of 101 through the Nelscott area.Construction for the new parking lot at SW35th and 101 will begin rather quickly because the other public parking area to the north will soon be covered with temporary contractor offices.
The winning bidder for the parking lot project was Devil’s Lake Rock Company who weighed in at a little over $152,000.
At another high visibility location, the city has awarded a contract to a construction firm that will help spruce up the D Lake Wayside area by taking down all the unsightly power poles and wires on the westside of Highway 101 that partially block the view of the ocean. The overhead power lines will be buried underground from Nothwest 2nd Street to SW Ebb. The project also includes new sidewalks and other amenities. Work on the project will begin sometime next fall at the earliest.
