Gas line break forces evacuation of the News-Times building
The Newport News Times building was evacuated Monday evening after a natural gas line broke, due to re-roofing crews accidentally breaking a 1-inch natural gas line. Work crews and workers inside the building immediately evacuated the building fearing explosive gas build up from the leak.
Newport Fire Department firefighters arrived and immediately located the gas meter and shut it off.
Roofing workers said that they were working on the roof when suddenly a gas line they were trying to move, ruptured.
