“Never Turn You Back on the Ocean”
The saying cannot be repeated too often. Just ask the 50 year old woman who was walking along the beach just off Salishan drive at Shore Pine Court this afternoon. Despite the high surf warning for the central coast, the woman decided to go for a walk along the beach.
Suddenly a huge wave rose up and slammed across the beach and knocked her down and pulled her out into the surf. She struggled to stand up, gulping sea water as she tried to get to her footing and back up onto higher sand. She finally made it…and an ambulance was called. She complained that she had swallowed “a lot of salt water.”
While the ambulance was enroute she started feeling better and a few minutes later she cancelled the ambulance.
Lesson learned – lucky to be sure.
Never turn your back on the ocean. And walking along a narrow beach at high tide, coupled with high surf, is not the best thing to do either. Not only is there less room to run from a wave, it’s a much bigger wave than normal.
