Some Josephine County residents are calling fire departments when they can’t get a cop…
Law enforcement challenged Josephine County residents are calling their local fire departments if there are no officers on duty. That is frequently the case since county voters said no to any tax increase to save their sheriff’s office from having to lay off nearly their entire force late last year.
But responding fire fighters are not equipped to handle burglars or armed individuals, including nasty (and sometimes deadly) domestic violence calls. And they’re not happy with false claims of “Save my house, it’s on fire” when it’s not on fire – but there is a law enforcement problem.
The dilemma for firefighters is outlined in this story in The Oregonian. Click here.
