Thursday Update:
The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing Waldport fisherman who fell overboard from the Fishing Vessel Seeker Wednesday morning 10 miles northwest of Unimak Island on the edge of the Bering Sea. The Seeker and other fishing vessels, along with a a Coast Guard cutter and two Coast Guard helos, searched the area through late yesterday finding no sign of the missing fisherman. This weekend’s Blessing of the Fleet in Newport will sadly have another life to mourn during the early morning memorial observed every year at the Fisherman’s Memorial at Government Park.
Since the Coast Guard is not releasing the name and Alaskan State Troopers say they aren’t either since it was not their case, we’re releasing the name since the family is already posting Eric Eder’s name and a photo on Facebook.

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley along with two Coast Guard Helicopters were searching the seas north of Unimak Pass in the Bering Sea Wednesday. Coast Guard Anchorage reports the man, reportedly from Waldport, went overboard from the Fishing Vessel Seeker, which is based in Newport.
Coast Guard Anchorage reports that the fisherman went overboard sometime early Wednesday morning and that his own crewmen and those from several other vessels in the area began looking for him. Coast Guard helicopters soon joined in the search about ten miles northwest of Unimak Island, which is about a third of the way out the Aleutian Islands chain from mainland Alaska.
