A contract school bus driver assigned to take some Waldport High School students to Portland on a field trip never made it to the school to pick them up Monday morning. The driver reportedly had the old high school address and couldn’t find it since it wasn’t there anymore.
So he went on a little field trip of his own to try to find it. But he got boxed in on a narrow road and turning around got him in trouble.
As he tried to make a complicated turn around at Crestline and Edgecliff, he backed his bus over the curb, and over a steep drop off. It left the bus high centered.
A muscular tow truck was enroute to pull him out.
The driver was to take 12 Waldport High School students to Shriner’s Hospital in Portland to observe medical procedures. The students are part of an outside sponsored program to provide students, interested in a medical career, a first hand look at what it’s like to be on the job.
School officials say the trip will be rescheduled.
