MARCH SHOW AT THE CHESSMAN GALLERY, LCCC
“Ab Intra- From Within”
OPEN MARCH 14th- APRIL 7th

LINCOLN CITY-
There will be an opening reception Friday, March 14th with wine and appetizers and a meet and greet with the artists. The show will run from March 14th through April 7th and is entitled “Ab Intra which is Latin for “From Within”. This show is an eclectic exhibition by Cynthia Jacobi, Frances Van Wert and Alice Martin, all of Newport, Oregon and presents their extremely different mediums and styles interwoven with a commonality of heart. Cynthia Jacobi is a watercolor and mixed-media artist, Frances Van Wert is a mixed-media, including but not limited to found object art as well as paper layering and Alice Martin is a Photographer. Each of these artists has exhibited extensively in the Northwest. Their use of color, texture, shape and form makes a strong statement in these very different art mediums.

Frances Van Wert has taken many art classes at the University of Oregon and the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology on the Oregon Coast. She has shown her artwork at several different galleries in Gig Harbor and Tacoma, WA, as well as in Portland, OR. She retired and moved to Newport, Oregon in 2004.

Newport artist, Cynthia Jacobi creates with watercolor and mixed media. Often inspired by Oregon nature, she gravitates towards the shapes of salmon, birds, ferns and coastal landscapes. She paints because it activates creative endorphins – the time when an artist transfers energy to the medium. “It is like playing in a sandbox of paints,” she says. On occasion, her work has been focused on serious political themes of women, war and children.

Alice Martin is new to photography, but not new to the world of art. She was raised in a culturally enriched environment and began art classes at the age of seven. She studied art at the Kansas City Art Institute, University of Alaska, Anchorage, and Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma Washington. She is formerly a professional clay artist, private instructor and adjunct faculty member at the University of Alaska, Anchorage.
