School District Proceeding with Middle School Liquidation Plans
This message to the community by Schools Superintendent Tom Rinearson – correcting the reason for the meeting of the Waldport Chamber of Commerce on March 13th. It’s not to discuss the future of the old school, but to discuss its liquidation.
Contrary to recent news releases and advertisements that would suggest otherwise, Lincoln County School District is proceeding with plans to liquidate the empty middle school building in Waldport.
Superintendent Tom Rinearson will attend a meeting of the Waldport Chamber of Commerce on March 13 to speak on school district happenings. He has not been invited to a “community visioning event” to discuss “the various possibilities for public use of the old school,” as some news reports state.
As announced on Jan. 16, the school district is seeking a solution to the high cost of maintaining the empty Waldport middle school building by requesting quotes to liquidate the property and buildings. The deadline to submit a quote is 1 p.m. Monday, March 3.
Quotes were to include a plan summary, action plan, timeline, and cost summaries for expenditures and/or revenue, with all proposed work to be completed by June 1. Work will be awarded based on the best interest of Lincoln County School District, not lowest bidder. A public announcement will be made when a decision is finalized.
