Lincoln City Police and possibly other law enforcement agencies are monitoring a man, carrying an assault rifle in plain view, walking northbound on Highway 101 in Lincoln City near SE 54th Drive.
It’s not against the law to carry such a weapon in public and it’s sometimes done by those who feel they must periodically display their right to bear arms.
Let’s hope that’s all this is.
The man has been spotted walking along the east side of 101, wearing a green jacket and jeans. His assault rifle is slung over his shoulder. Police say he is not exhibiting any threatening behavior toward anyone. Just walking.
Law enforcement has not engaged the man. Just monitoring.
Man is now talking with an elderly male driving a white Chevy S-10-type vehicle. Officers are still not engaging the rifleman.
Rifleman is now walking near Ocean Terrace on 101 at SW Beach.
Law enforcement is now talking with the rifleman.
Law enforcement says the rifleman is uncooperative, saying he is simply demonstrating his right to carry a weapon. The officer said he then continued walking. The officer said he’s walking with his assault rifle in a calm manner, exhibiting no threatening behavior. The officer said it is the same man who periodically does this in Lincoln City. Below is a photo of a man photographed last year while walking along the beach near Spanish Head.
