The National Weather Service has upgraded the High Wind Watch to a High Wind Warning for Lincoln City, Depoe Bay, Newport, Waldport and Yachats. It is in effect from 7:00am Saturday morning through 7:00pm Saturday evening for south winds 35-45 mph gusting to 65-70 mph along beaches and headlands, and 35-40 mph with gusts of 55-60 mph for Central Coast communities. Peak winds will be Saturday afternoon and into the evening. And… an additional round of strong winds is expected on Sunday afternoon and evening, 25-30 mph gusting 50.
Meanwhile, the Flood Watch for the Central Coast remains in effect through Sunday. The next storm is expected tomorrow with additional heavy rain, up to 3 inches, projected. There will be little time between storms for the rivers to recede, and flooding is likely across river basins in the Central Coast Range and elsewhere. Flooding of small rivers, streams and roads is probable during the heaviest rainfall periods. Landslides and debris flows are also possible. Structures and roads located below steep slopes, in valleys and near the mouths of valleys may be at serious risk from rapidly moving landslides. A third round of heavy rain is expected on Monday.
