Whether to build the new Portland to Vancouver bridge across the Columbia River, legalize recreational marijuana, offer booze for sale in grocery stores, require background checks on nearly all private gun sales and other high profile legislation are set to get a thumbs up or down in Salem today. It’s a strange concoction of bills that would normally be expected to be debated in a regular year legislative session – not in an off year gathering of lawmakers which is aimed mainly at budget tweaking between those regular sessions. But its 2014 and this is Oregon.
