CITY OF NEWPORT URGES MOTORISTS, BICYCLISTS, PEDESTRIANS AND MOTORCYCLISTS TO USE EXTRA CAUTION DUE TO RECENT STREET SANDING
The City of Newport is urging motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorcyclists to use extra caution on streets and shoulders that have loose materials from the application of sand which was used for traction control during the recent storm.
The city will be sweeping the streets and shoulders as weather permits. However, sweeping cannot occur during heavy rain events. This means that sand may remain on the streets and shoulders for several weeks. The sand on streets and shoulders may create conditions in which vehicles can slide.
Motorists should take extra precautions and give bicyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians extra room on the shoulder until the streets are complete cleaned.
