A Coast Guard Helicopter and a 47′ motor lifeboat, both from Newport, are on scene of a distress fishing boat, the F/V Sylvia based out of Newport. The Sylvia reported it was taking on water and that its pumps could not stay ahead of the leak.
The Coast Guard reports just as the helo arrived the fishing boat crew managed to fire up a third pump which appeared to do the trick. A short while later the motor lifeboat came along side with another pump which should accelerate the de-watering of the boat.
Coast Guardsmen are trying to ascertain where the leak is coming from and install a temporary seal. Once that’s done the Coast Guard will escort the F/V Sylvia back to Newport.
No reports of injuries.
According to NOAA Registry lists an F/V Sylvia home ported at Winchester Bay and owned by Matthew Nakken out of Lakeside, OR.
