ODOT crews in the central and southern Willamette Valley are gearing-up for a night of snowplowing and sanding as they continue with 24-hour coverage to respond to a storm that produced heavy snowfall over a wide area.
Chain requirements remain in effect on I-5 in Linn County. Traffic continues to be heavily congested north of Albany where a string of multiple car crashes closed the highway for five hours earlier today.
ODOT crews have been deployed from Marion County, Douglas County and Lane County to help with plowing and sanding in Linn County. All crews in the mid and southern Willamette Valley are focusing on those highways that have the heaviest traffic volumes, are most critical for commuters and businesses and carry the heaviest freight volume.
In short, the public should understand there are simply not enough plows, sanders and staff to bring all highways in the region to bare pavement tonight. As the primary and secondary highways are improved, the less-traveled highways will be prioritized. Motorists should be prepared to travel in winter conditions
