Goodwill Industries of the Columbia and Willamette (Portland/Vancouver area, GICW) has announced some really big plans for Lincoln City. Goodwill says that their very aggressive service business model, that has proven extremely successful around the northwest, continues here on the Central Coast.

Goodwill’s Dale Emanuel said they are going to build a brand new Goodwill near the Tanger Mall on Highway 101, about three miles south of their current store. The location will be directly across from Lincoln City City Hall, occupying the north/east side of 101 from the gravel area to the south, take out the old News Guard building and the Dolphin Motel and everything south of there, stopping just shy of the Radio Shack/Electronics Store.

The new Goodwill will be very similar in appearance and function as their new facility in The Dalles, up the Gorge, pictured above. It will be far larger and more modern than their current facility on north 101. Total square footage of the new store is 24,000 square feet, but not all of it, of course, is retail. That will be part of the footprint, but certainly the retail shopping area will be much larger than what’s available at the current facility.

Emanuel says Construction is expected to begin shortly with a brand new Goodwill Store open for business by the end of September.

Emanuel passed along some Goodwill store facts:

Through the sale of donations, 95-cents of every dollar goes directly to GICW’s local Job Services Programs.

All of GICW’s 47 stores reflect a uniform standard of accessibility, safety, and efficiency and provide a pleasant environment for shoppers and employees.

GICW’s traditional retail sales per square foot have increased from $56.29 in 1985 to $261.37 in 2012. The national industry average is $125.31*.

In 2012, GICW collected more than 173 million pounds of donated goods – more than any other Goodwill in North America, including those in much larger cities like Los Angeles, Chicago or New York.

In 2010 The Portland Business Journal named GICW in the top ten of Most Admired Nonprofits in Oregon.

* Those who would like to apply to Goodwill for employment (there will be 40 total openings) can apply by stopping by their current Lincoln City facility at 4157 Hwy 101, or call 541-994-2435. Applications can also be submitted on line at MeetGoodwill.org/careers, or simply click here.
