After a two hour standoff, a despondent Lincoln City man, threatening to commit suicide with a gun, was talked out of it by a Lincoln City Police negotiator. At 1:45am he walked out of the house and taken into custody by officers.
The incident began late Wednesday night when a call came into 9-1-1 that a man was threatening suicide by gun in a residence near 16th and Fleet. The caller was very distraught saying the man was going to kill himself. Besides the hand gun the man had next to him, there was another hand gun and a rifle in the home. It also sounded like there were two other people inside the home besides the suicidal man.
At one point the man said he knew police were outside but he was not going to confront them.
After a couple of hours of talking to the man and another person, it came down to the man deciding to come outside, which he did and surrendered peacefully.
He was taken into protective custody. Officers then searched the home to make sure everyone inside was okay.
The Oregon State Police SWAT Team, which was enroute from Salem at the time of the man’s surrender, was notified so they turned around and went home.
