A long standing Taft area ranch-estate style house that has been well used, not only by Taft area families, but also by helpful social services agencies that provide emergency shelter for the needy, is sadly coming down. The fact is, the house is in pretty bad shape.
The Lincoln City Urban Renewal Agency, which owns the rambling home and its grounds, awarded a demolition bid to JSE Labs for $13,600. JSE will demolish it and haul the pieces off. Already some interior wood in the house has been donated to Habitat for Humanity in Lincoln City.
The Urban Renewal staff offered the demolition honors to the North Lincoln Fire District as a “Learn to Burn” fire education training exercise, but the fire department said no thanks. But the Lincoln City Police Department asked that they be allowed to do some police training with the structure before it’s torn down. After the police are done with it, the demolition can move ahead.
Urban Renewal staff says the house should be gone and the site cleaned up by late March. The site will eventually be included in another urban renewal project.
