Senator Ron Wyden, already Oregon’s most powerful member of Congress, is about to take the political escalator to a much higher and politically powerful post – Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. The Finance Committee is THE “must stop,” “must debate,” “must pass or throw out” power center in the senate dealing with such matters as taxes, international trade and health care. Wyden’s impending coronation to “manage” such legislation will again put an Oregonian in that lofty seat – not seen since Oregon Senator Bob Packwood wielded that gavel in the early ’90s.
Although Senator Wyden frequently quips that “I have a face perfectly made for radio,” we’re likely to see much more of Senator Wyden on our evening television newscasts.
