Shannon Loch with the Connie Hansen Garden Conservancy passed along this startling sign that in the opinion of some of Mother Nature’s more colorful subjects winter is slowly passing behind us as we steam toward an early spring. Loch says these lovely bloomers seem quite comfortable with spreading their abundant petals to greet what has been almost daily sunshine instead of the normal torrential rains and hurricane force winds that all to frequently accompany them.
We had the start of a pretty good brush fire yesterday in Tidewater, upriver from Waldport. Fortunately quick action with some garden hoses held the fire in check until fire crews could arrive.
Yup, yesterday was a Red Flag firewatch day – most of our air coming from the interior of Northern California.
