Lincoln County’s first Benefit Company is now being formed in the Incubator
Oregon has joined 18 other states that allow a corporation to register as a “Benefit Company.” A “B Corp”
This designation protects corporations from being faced with legal challenges from shareholders who demand that they maximize profits. Instead, the new “B Corp” encourages companies to include social and environmental benefits as part of their bottom line.
The “B” corporation must provide an annual report demonstrating that it operated with positive social and environmental outcomes in the community, in addition to its regular annual report to shareholders.
Weed Busters is the first B-Corp now being formed by the Lincoln County Permaculture Entrepreneurship Incubator. It will be operation beginning late March, just it time to start munching down emerging weeds and blackberries!
The public is invited to the next meeting of the Lincoln County Permaculture Entrepreneurship Incubator, February 8, Saturday at 1:05 pm in the basement of the Toledo Library. You do not need a business idea or business plan. But being interested in becoming your own boss and having an interest in local food production will help a lot!
Lincoln County Permaculture Entrepreneurship Incubator purpose is help people find their “Entrepreneur Mindset.” Each person has a different “Entrepreneur Mindset.“
Regardless of your Mindset you will need additional resources:
If you don’t have enough money – Someone else does.
If you don’t have enough knowledge – Someone else does.
If you don’t have enough time – Someone else does.
All you need is an interest in local food production, want to help the environment and your community and a desire to be part of a business.
The Incubator will “Hatch” “Benefit Companies.” When an idea is “Hatched” it will go in front of the “Sharks” in the Lincoln County Shark Tank. For example, when the Weed Busters “Hatches” later this spring, it will go into the Shark Tank for money – whether for expanding its goat herd, fencing and/or goat houses.
When you find your Entrepreneur Mindset and connect with people who support your business, you will provide environmental and social benefits and make a profit.
There are no fees to join the Incubator. There are no products, services or courses sold. All that is being asked of you is that you “Pay It Forward.” See the Pay it Forward movie and learn about “B” Corps. If you have an interest in local food production: need money, time or knowledge come and join us at the Incubator.
