After Oregon Coast Community College – Then what?

Oregon Coast Community College, Newport Campus

Oregon Coast Community College, Newport Campus

So you’ve taken classes at OCCC, and you’re thinking about moving to the next level. So where should your career interests lead you? In an effort to assist Oregon Coast Community College (OCCC) students to successfully transition to a four-year college or university, OCCC will host a College Transfer Days event on February 11 from 10:00-1:00 at the Newport campus. As part of the activities, representatives from Oregon colleges and four-year universities will be on-campus to provide information and to answer questions about their campuses.

Community college students and citizens throughout Lincoln County are welcome to get firsthand information from each institution present during the Oregon Transfer Days event. Representatives will be on hand to assist with transfer planning, or will aid those individuals who might enroll directly to a four-year college or university. Thus far 10 institutions will journey to the coast to meet with students including; Pacific University (Forest Grove), University of Oregon (Eugene), University of Portland (Portland), Southern Oregon University (Ashland), Oregon State University-Cascades (Bend), Oregon State University (Corvallis), Linfield College (McMinnville), Eastern Oregon University (La Grande), University of Western States (Portland) and Oregon Institute of Technology (Klamath Falls).

At Oregon’s public universities, the numbers of community college students transferring increased significantly by 70% percent in the last ten years. In 2011-2012, community college transfer students numbered 7,065 at Oregon public universities. This increase is attributed to several factors including co-enrollment and articulation agreements between community colleges and universities and the creation of new options such as the Oregon Transfer Module, which enable students to ensure that their credits will apply at a 4-year institution.

Individuals who wish to attend the spring term session which begins March 31 are encouraged to contact the college (541) 867-8501 and speak with an Advising Specialist. Details about Oregon Coast Community College and the services that the college provides can be found on the college’s website (www.OregonCoastCC.org).
