A blue Infinity sedan headed east on Highway 34, Alsea Highway, left the road near Eckman Lake Saturday evening. The 7:15pm accident involved the sedan leaving the road and plowing through blackberry bushes and plowing a large gouge in the hillside. The car has California plates.
Upon arrival, law enforcement couldn’t find any sign of anyone around, so they fanned out to try to find whoever was in the car.
It wasn’t long before a patrol deputy sheriff spotted a man east of the wreck. When the deputy asked him a question about the wreck the man became hostile and a struggle was on. At one point the deputy pulled out a tazer and shot the man with it.
As it turned out, the man was very intoxicated. He was loaded aboard an ambulance and taken to PCH in Newport for removal of a taser barb in his face.
It was not immediately determined if the man was, in fact, associated with the wrecked car. There were also questions about other elements at the scene of the struggle that officers said merit further looking in to. They did not elaborate. But more information may be forthcoming when the sheriff’s office issues a news release on the incident.
