A lot of fun with agates continues Sunday in Yachats as the Yachats Commons is jam packed with agates and being displayed in every manner of fashion and all are beautifully presented.
The Yachats Agate Show is in its third year and has more than just agate beauty going for it. Some of the proceeds from the show goes into a fund that has some rather noble and far reaching goals. Among them are preserving prime ocean and mountain view lands between Yachats and Cape Perpetua, especially along the west facing ridges including the big ridge immediately south of Yachats. Another project is to connect Yachats with the Cape Perpetua Scenic area with two trail systems: A coast route and a ridge route higher up. Some of the proceeds from the Agate Show have longer term goals like teaming up with Lincoln County’s Land Legacy Program to help protect Yachats’ viewshed by purchasing conservation easement on lands south of the Yachats River and their north and west facing ridges.
The Yachats Agate Show is being held at the Yachats Commons, right downtown. The fun begins at 10am and runs through 4pm. In addition to agates there will be minerals, gems, crystals and fossils on display. Raw specimens from California, Oregon, and Washington will be out for your admiring pleasure as well as finished products of jewelry, polished artifacts and “rocktography.”
Also on Sunday there’s a silent auction, offering a variety of artwork, rocky treasures and special products and services from vendors and local merchants.
10 to 4, Sunday, at the Yachats Commons. We’ll see ya down there!!
