Oregon State Senators again are raising the issue of background checks on private gun sales which failed to make much headway during the last regular session of the legislature.
Senator Floyd Prozanski, D-Eugene, predicts that such a bill will move forward in the Senate in the upcoming off year Legislature which begins in February. But with a 16 to 14 Democrat majority, losing one Democrat senator would effectively defeat the bill on a tie vote. Conservative leaning Democrat Senator Betsy Johnson has often said that her rural northwest Oregon constituency generally opposes any further restrictions on gun sales. But Johnson’s also been quoted as saying she would consider additional legislation adding more gun control, depending on what it would do.
