With the new year comes a fresh new term at Oregon Coast Community College’s Small Business Development Center. Registration is now open for classes and free workshops happening now through March at OCCC’s campuses in Lincoln City, Newport and Waldport.
“One of the hallmarks of this year at the SBDC continues to be funding support for many Lincoln City business owners, thanks to a grant program funded by the city’s Urban Renewal Agency,” said SBDC director Dave Price. “This grant covers 100 percent of the tuition charges for any one class or program each term, for any business located within the city’s Urban Renewal District.” To find out if your business is eligible for this assistance, call the SBDC office at 541-994-4166.
With or without funding support from Lincoln City, businesses from across the county will be interested in the SBDC’s lineup of free and low-cost programs and classes this term. The Winter 2014 schedule starts off this week with a class all about e-mail marketing using the Constant Contact service. That class is set for Wednesday, Jan. 8 at the Lincoln City OCCC campus.
This week will also see more technology classes, with a free workshop geared to small business owners and managers set for Thursday, Jan. 9, called “Ten Best Mobile Apps for You and Your Business.” Taught by Lindsey Johnson, this free workshop is coming to Lincoln City’s campus, in the Community Room, at 6 pm. At the same time on the same day, OCCC instructor Misty Lambrecht will be presenting a class on Google Picasa, a powerful free image editing and management software tool, upstairs in the Lincoln City campus.
The following week, the SBDC’s powerful 10-week business start-ups class, “Business Start-Ups & Tune Ups,” begins on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Later that week, on Thursday, Jan. 16, the SBDC will present a special, free one-night session from the center’s Small Business Management Program.
“Ron Spisso, our Small Business Management coordinator, will be presenting his most popular lecture, on Break-Even Analysis,” Price said. “Originally scheduled for last term, the class had to be canceled due to illness. To make up for that, we’re offering the event free, not only to SBM participants, but to any business owner or manager in Lincoln County, who’d like to learn more about this fundamental business tool.” The free event runs from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.
