Eddyville Charter School students have won a handsome reward for scientific research into how far upstream the 1700 AD tsunami reached. A school teacher marched his students out into the wilds of the Toledo Airfield, sank a sediment capture pipe, and five feet down they found beach sand. Teacher Sean Bedell said the sand was put there by the tidal surge from the last great tsunami to come ashore on the Oregon Coast and for which another one is forecasted to occur eventually.
How they went about their experiment and the generous award the school received as a result is found in this story in the Corvallis Gazette Times. Click here.
