Freedom to Marry at Jan. 8 PFLAG Meeting
Oregon Central Coast PFLAG (Parents, Family & Friends of Lesbians and Gays) will hold its monthly meeting at 6 PM on Wed., January 8, at St. Stephen’s Church at SW 9th & Hurbert in Newport. The topic for information and discussion will be Oregon’s campaign to put Freedom to Marry on the November 2014 ballot. Susan Suffion, an official with the statewide campaign, will be the speaker. Local signature gatherers led by Rhonda Jantzen will be recognized for their hard work in gathering signatures in Lincoln County.
The chapter’s Annual Meeting will also be part of the agenda. Officers will be elected and a plan for the year’s meetings and activities will be reviewed. PFLAG meetings also include time for support groups as well as refreshments and conversation.
PFLAG is a national organization established to support gays, their families and friends through its mission of Education, Support and Advocacy. Research shows that LGBT students who receive support from their families, schools and communities are able to survive the stress and challenges far better than students who don’t have that support.
PFLAG provides factual and helpful information and personal connections for families whose children or teens believe they may be among the minority in gender orientation or identity. For more information, call Jeanne St.John at 541-265-7194.
