A cold and increasingly hypothermic surfer was rescued off Pacific City in Tillamook County this afternoon. A Coast Guard Helo picked the young male surfer up and took him to Newport, which has a major hospital, not knowing the extent of the surfer’s condition.
Upon landing at Newport Airport it was determined that the young man was probably going to be fine. He declined medical attention from an awaiting PacWest Ambulance crew. It seemed that his greatest concern was trying to get someone from Pacific City to drive down to Newport to pick him up and take him home.
