Not a lot of communities have the opportunity to build a full-power community-operated radio station. But by January 4, 2014, the Oregon central coast WILL have its own local public radio station at FM 91.7, thanks to all the support and enthusiasm from the community. Thanks to them, YOU will own the airwaves! However, until KYAQ has studio equipment, community members will not be able to create programs the community wants to hear!
Your tax-deductible gifts will purchase important equipment like CD players for music shows, microphones for Finding Your Voice, even a special box to put telephone calls on the air — pretty important for local news and talk shows. And then there is the mixing board, microphones, wind screens, mic stands, cords, connectors…back-of-the-house necessities like distribution amplifiers, switchers and Anzo brushes (ok… that last item is made up, and we stole it from Dilbert).
We DO have a turntable, donated by a 50-something DJ wannabee who never quite made it on the music scene. But right now it is like the cheese. It stands alone.
The fundraising goal is $6,000, but we need to raise more than that to have a completely functional studio, so please be generous!
If the studio equipment is inadequate, we won’t attract enough volunteers to train and create compelling local programming! But the reward of a successful fundraiser is that YOU will own the airwaves.
Please donate — and then spread the word. Use the built-in IndieGoGo share tools to make this a smashing success!
KYAQ is: Central Oregon coast folks — you and your friends and neighbors — who understand the value in having locally controlled media from Lincoln County and for Lincoln County; volunteers who have given their time, their money, and nearly seven years of ceaseless effort to get KYAQ on the air; artists, musicians, teachers, retirees, students, talkers, and recluses; readers, writers, and raconteurs. You will hear us soon — at FM 91.7!
