CERT Classes at Siletz Fire Department
The East Lincoln County CERT Coalition (ELCCC) is offering CERT training at the Siletz Fire Department. Classes meet on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. for 8 weeks, starting on January 6. There will also be a Saturday class session at 9:00 March 1 to practice skills learned.
CERT members help their neighborhoods in times of disaster. CERT students learn about personal disaster preparedness, basic first aid, light search and rescue, shutting off utilities, using fire extinguishers, and more. Fire and medical emergency responders will not be able to meet the demand for these services. Factors such as multiple victims, communication failures and road blockages will prevent people from accessing emergency services they have come to expect at a moment’s notice through 9-1-1.
People will have to rely on each other for help in order to meet their immediate life-saving and life-sustaining needs. CERT members have the knowledge and training to better cope with and respond to these events.
The ELCCC is a member of the Lincoln County Citizen Corps Coordinating Council and of the Toledo Fire Department.
