Yes, Kerry Kemp is a Yachats property owner, but he’s not quite a local…yet. Kemp applied for the job of Waldport City Manager after a high powered head-hunting outfit caught up with him in Southern California. Upon learning of the city manager opening Kemp must’ve laughed because it was barely nine months ago that he bought a house in Yachats!
Kemp comes with stellar credentials after 25 years of public administration, community development and urban renewal experience. For the past 14 years Kemp has been the Community Investment Manager for the city of Anaheim, in south suburban Los Angeles. Prior to joining Anaheim, Kemp was a senior Consultant for Public Economics, Inc., and served in the Community Development and General Services Department for the City of Long Beach.
Kemp has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University and earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration from California State University at Long Beach.
Executive search firm Prothman, Inc. produced 49 city manager prospects. After reviewing them, the city council settled on three finalists. All three were interviewed during all day reviews by the city council, city staff and members of the Waldport community. Kemp was the city council’s unanimous choice for the position during their regular meeting Thursday afternoon.
Kemp’s first day on the job is January 13th.
