Port of Newport Commissioners Thursday chose Port of Garibaldi Manager Kevin Greenwood to become the Port of Newport’s new General Manager. Greenwood will replace the retiring Don Mann. Greenwood was offered the job contingent upon passing background checks and reference follow-ups. Salary and other elements to his employment are still matters of negotiation.
Greenwood is a former city manager of the city of Garibaldi and four years as manager of the Port of Garibaldi. Port President JoAnn Barton said she was impressed with his solid management skills and expects that he will be a wonderful fit for the port and for the community. She said she was especially impressed with Greenwood’s ability to reach out to the community he serves and to create connections with the community. She also likes his youthful enthusiasm and his ability to professionally network.
Greenwood told the commission that after he takes the helm in early February he wants to begin improving facilities for Newport’s commercial fishing fleet. He said he wants to build up the new International Terminal. And thirdly, faced with the retirement of several strategically key personnel at the port, he wants to begin building a new team that will move the port forward. He said it may take a while to get that team in place – certainly a number of months.
Barton said Greenwood is a family man with wife Stephanie and their children. She said he and Stephanie look forward to acclimating themselves to Newport and their new life here.
