Due to a water main break on Tuesday evening, the City of Newport issued a boil water advisory for a small part of the city. That advisory has been lifted effective immediately.
On Tuesday, December 10, the city experienced a water main break in the vicinity of NE 5th and NE Eads Streets resulting in depressurization of the water system in that area. The specific affected areas were NE 5th Street between NE Douglas and NE Eads, NE Eads Street from NE 3rd to NE 7th Streets, and NE Douglas Street from NE 4th to NE 6th Streets. When a portion of the water system is depressurized the city is required by State of Oregon regulations to send a boil water notice to the affected area until a bacteria test is successfully passed.
Water samples have successfully passed a bacteria test and residents of this area no long need to boil drinking water.
