A little before 6pm in Newport a report came in from a crabber in the bay that there was a fire in the upper mast area of the Pacific Ram fishing vessel, tied up behind Trident Seafoods. The report was that there were flames seen in the mast area and that it was smoking pretty well.
Arriving fire fighters put out what was left of the fire, figuring that it was a forward looking light that somehow malfunctioned and shorted out some healthy voltage. No major damage was done. No one was aboard the boat at the time. Firefighters were trying to track down the owner.
