Newport Sea Lion Docks Foundation is the non-profit that is replacing the sea lion docks at Port Dock 1 on the Bay Front. The original docks were destroyed by recent winter storms. The sea lion docks are a great attraction to visitors and residents alike, and the opportunity to view these interesting and amusing wild animals close up would have been lost if the Foundation had not been set up to fund their replacement.
The Foundation is hoping to put in 100 feet of new floating docks in January. The Foundation is just $4,000 short of the $55,000 needed to complete them. To help bridge the gap, we are holding a fundraiser by selling four sea lion statuettes donated by world-renowned sculptor Foot Young, who sent them to us all the way from his studio in Australia.
The statuettes are now on display at Bayscapes Gallery at 333 SW Bay Boulevard, just two doors down from Port Dock 1, and can be seen and purchased there. They can also be viewed on the Foundation’s website at www.newportsealiondocks.com
One statuette is cast in a silver alloy, two are in marble and the fourth is a cold cast bronze. They range in price from $250 to $400 and this is a great opportunity to own (or give as a Christmas present) an attractive piece of fine art while helping to replace such an important feature of our tourist economy.
If you simply would like to make a contribution to this great cause, you can do so on the web site. The Foundation is a certified 501c-3 non-profit group so all donations are fully tax deductible.
