The Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble will present its second annual Holiday Concert on December 14 at the Yachats Commons beginning at 2 PM. Proceeds from the concert will benefit South County Resources, as well as the Yachats Food Pantry.
The program will draw heavily on traditional favorites – carol medleys (including the Leroy Anderson “Christmas Festival”), a concert band setting of the “Hallelujah” chorus from The Messiah, pop tunes (think “Rudolph”), plus a few very familiar non-seasonal numbers. Interspersed among these pieces will be carols played in four part harmony to which the audience is invited, encouraged even, to sing along. Lyric sheets will be provided.
Refreshments will be available at intermission, as well as bake sale items to take home.
A donation of $5/ person and $10/family is requested. Proceeds will go to South Lincoln County Resources. Non-perishable food items will also be collected for the Yachats Food Pantry.
The Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble is composed of about 35 professional and amateur musicians from the central Oregon coast, and has provided concert band entertainment for more than two decades,. Under the direction of Jim Cameron, prominent local jazz pianist, the band plays several concerts per year throughout the region, including the Winter Holiday Concert in Yachats, Spring Concert North in Newport, Spring Concert South in Florence, Beachcomber Days in Waldport and Waldport High School graduations. No auditions are required to join the band, which rehearses Monday nights during the school year, alternately in Waldport and Florence. Most of the members are adult, but high school students are encouraged to join. For further information, please visit our web site at http://www.snagglebunnytribe.net/PCWE_Home.
As part of the Band’s outreach program, it provides scholarships to local music students, mainly from Newport, Waldport and Siuslaw high schools. Persons interested in applying for a scholarship should contact the music teacher at their local school.
