Lincoln City Police Department received a frantic 911 call from an injured male, reporting a motor vehicle crash near the Blackfish Café in Lincoln City. Officers responded to the area and eventually located a single motor vehicle crash several blocks away, near the intersection of NW 26th Street and NW Keel Ave.
A silver, 2000 Audi TT coupe, driven by 18-year-old, Maxwell A. Rea, of Otis had lost control while traveling northbound on NW Keel Ave after passing the intersection of NW 25th Street. The vehicle crossed the centerline of NW Keel Ave and struck a tree head-on along the west side of NW Keel Ave. The vehicle spun several times before coming to rest in a nearby yard.
Rea and his passenger, 22-year-old, Dakota Hatfield-Nelson, of Lincoln City were both injured during the crash and transported by ambulance to the Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital. Hatfield-Nelson was later transferred to the Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland, OR due to possible internal injuries. Airbags had deployed during the crash, and neither the driver or passenger were wearing safety restraints at the time of the impact.
Alcohol and speed appeared to be contributing factors in the crash. Rea was cooperative in the investigation, and was issued Criminal Citations while at the hospital for:
Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants
Assault 2nd Degree
Rea was also issued a violation citation for Possession of Less than One Ounce of Marijuana.
