Santa and his elves will gather food and money for Christmas including Holiday Food Baskets in the south county this weekend.
All three south county fire departments help with this local holiday tradition. Following Thanksgiving’s 321 food baskets, there is a need to gather a lot of canned food and dollars to restock the supplies for Christmas. Every can and every dollar will help put food on the table for more than 1,000 local residents; children to seniors.
In Waldport Santa will be at Central Coast Fire Station Saturday, December 7th. Operation Santa will begin at the Fire Station on Hwy 34 at 4pm with food and crafts. Santa will arrive at 5pm. Please bring your canned food donations to the fire station. If needed, arrangements can be made for pick-up by calling 541-563-3121.
In Yachats, bring your canned food and cash donations to the Yachats Fire Hall on 2nd Street through December 8th.
The Seal Rock Fire Department will escort Santa door-to-door Saturday starting about 4:00 in Makai, then going to Driftwood Village. They plan to be in Bayshore and Sandpiper between 6:00 and 7:00. It’s a large territory, please be ready. You are also encouraged to bring donations to the Seal Rock Station on Grebe St. or Bay Mart Deli. All food donations and cash contributions will be used to feed children, families and seniors living in Seal Rock, Waldport, Yachats, Tidewater and Five Rivers.
Have a bag or box of food at your front door with Santa’s name on it or take food donations to any south county fire station. Write checks to South Lincoln Resources/HFB. Christmas Baskets should be filled with canned foods such as soups, vegetables, fruit, tuna, beans and chili, as well as peanut butter, pastas and other goods.
Collected food goes to South Lincoln Resources where volunteers fill hundreds of boxes, also adding a ham, bread, potatoes, onions, carrots and eggs. It’s a big deal for hundreds of our families who may not have enough to eat without this community generosity.
South Lincoln Resources has coordinated this community-wide event since 1983. It’s an all-volunteer, non-profit charitable organization with no paid positions and no government funding. Tax-deductible cash donations go a long way and are also accepted by mail at: South Lincoln Resources, PO Box 1638, Waldport, OR 97394.
The South Lincoln County Needy Children’s Christmas Program has gathered gifts for children of food basket applicants for almost 30 years. New clothing and non-electronic toys are matched to each child. These gifts are gathered all year. Every dollar of donated funds is used to purchase the gifts.
