This coming Saturday’s INDOOR Farmer’s Market, at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds, will be the last of the Winter season. Gathering Together Farms and others will be on hand offering farm fresh vegetables for your perusal. Other good foodie items like honey and other tasty delectables too! Lots of arts and crafts, coffees, breads, knitted hats, scenic photography and it goes on and on.

So…just one more Winter Farmer’s Market this Saturday. Then, May 11th, the Summer Farmer’s Market begins May 11th (they skip April) at Newport City Hall on the south lawn and on Avery.

The folks at the Farmer’s Market appreciate your patronage and support through the long Winter months and look forward to sunnier skies in an outdoor setting starting May 11th back at Newport City Hall!

Newport Farmers Market, today, 10am-2pm

For wonderfully grown local produce and hand crafted gifts and lots more to delight the eye and palate, it’s the Newport Farmers Market every Saturday at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. It runs 10am to 2pm, right behind Newport High School.

Local boutique farmers from Lincoln and surrounding counties put out their best greens, fresh honey, spices, herbs, scrumptious baked goods, beautiful artwork, sculpture (your’re not done Christmas shopping, are you?) stunning photography, clothing, superb coffees and lots, lots more.

Yes, it is possible to have a year round farmers market on the coast. We don’t live in North Dakota where the thermometer heads below freezing for the winter and stays there. Our moderate coastal climate, along with hoop and green house technologies, allow our local farmers to grow garden fresh produce year round.

Visit the handiwork of local crafters and farmers that will delight your eye and your taste buds every Saturday at the Newport Farmers Market, all the way through the winter, 10-2 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.

The Newport Farmers Market still has some folks showing up outside Newport City Hall. That farmers market is done for the season. The Winter Farmers Market is in full swing at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds, just east of Newport High School.

It’s nice and warm inside the fairgrounds building, and they have veggies, produce, jams, breads, eggs, meatand sweets. And, we’re told, that they have amazing artists displaying their crafts.

The Newport Fairgrounds Farmers Market is every Saturday from 10am to 2pm! See ya down there!!!

Blue Moon, So. Beaver Creek

Duncan Campbell was hangin’ out in his driveway tonight, with a camera of course. And he snapped a nice picture of the Blue Moon over our area. Very nicely done Duncan. Notice the power of starlight out there away from city glow. As bright as the moon is, you could still see bright stars very close to it.

Farmers Market Lemonade Project
Toledo Mayor Ralph Grutzmacher and others volunteering

Information from Chloe Rico, Community Food Organizer

With the start of the Newport Farmers’ Market season, comes the continuation of the Lemonade Project. The market is looking for volunteers to help at The Lemonade Project booth on Saturdays during the farmers market to squeeze and sell lemonade. It’s a really fun time getting to know the farmers market customers. Come and volunteer one Saturday!

The proceeds from the lemonade go toward boosting the buying power of those on SNAP (formerly Food Stamps), to where they can take home more fresh fruits and vegetables for their meals. The Newport Food Pantry recently announced that nearly 25% of the population of Newport is signed up for food. So there’s a lot of hungry people out there. Money raised at the lemonade stand ensures each SNAP shopper at the farmers market receives an additional six dollars toward purchases which helps them stretch their food dollars while adding healthy fruits, vegetables and local foods to their diets.

To sign up to volunteer for this worthwhile activity call 541-867-8672.

The Newport Saturday Farmers Market is back. The Newport Saturday Farmers Market kicked off the season yesterday to big crowds and lots of happy faces. The Newport Farmers Market has been running for decades and is the second longest running farmers market in Oregon. The Newport Farmers Market features local growers, both organic and more traditional appearing on the south lawn of Newport City Hall and on Avery Street every Saturday through October 29th.

Being the middle of May, the farmers market is offering early produce which includes peas, lettuce, greens, radishes, potatoes, and, as always, herbs. New products anticipated throughout the season includes eggs from ducks – not just chickens, wool, henna body illustrations, extensive arts and crafts and fruit smoothies blended through bicycle pedal power as well as baked fish munchies. There are scrumptious pastries, breads, kettle corn, pizza, superb gourmet coffee, crepes, veggie burgers and soups and dips. The farmers market is also a good source for getting your home’s exterior looking more like summer with perennial flowers, bedding plants and other shrubs that give a more full look to enhance your home’s “curb appeal.” Even tai chi demonstrations for Baby Boomers!

In addition to cash and credit cards, the farmers market now accepts the Oregon Trail EBT cards (food stamps). Those who would like to help stretch Oregon Trail EBT card buying power can stop by the big farmers market lemonade stand and buy a lemonade. Profits are plowed right back into matching funds that enhances the buying power of those with Oregon Trail cards. The market also accepts WIC and Senior Farm Direct Nutrition Program checks.
