A Pontiac Grand Am started smoking in an apartment parking lot Monday morning on NE 7th, directly north of Cash and Carry Market. Newport Fire units were on scene within a minute of the call and had no trouble finding it. It was smoking away with chemicals and debris already starting to fall down from the engine area, some of it coating the front wheels.
Firefighters popped the hood and hosed the fire down pretty well and within a few minutes the fire was out. No word on a cause. But as car fires go (some of them visible from space based on what usually burns) this was a rare save. Lots of motor work to be done to bring this Pontiac back into running order, to be sure.Share on Facebook
