Steve Power recently captured a fleeting moment of sunlight at Neskowin, north of Cascade Head, encapsulating some of the raw beauty of the Oregon Coast. The small figures in the foreground, coming up out of the near surf beach, are the remnants of trees that used to tower over the surf like those higher on the cliffs. The offshore Cascadia Subduction Zone shoves the Pacific tectonic plate under the North American plate resulting in a large earthquake every 300 to 700 years (on average) that causes a drop in the level of the shoreline. Similar sights of “ghost trees” can be seen east of Highway 101 at the mouth of the Siletz River and along Beaver Creek south of Newport.

This is so sureal, it almost looks like a Thomas Kincade painting, yet it is the Lord’s work. Just beautiful, beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.
