Newport and Waldport: AARP Offers Two Drivers Education Classes in January

The AARP refresher class for all licensed Oregon drivers will be held in Newport January 7th and 8th (Monday-Tuesday) from 9 am to Noon both days at the Oregon Coast Community College campus in South Beach, Room #140 (Community Room). Turn East on SE 40th St. – Go to the end, turn right to the main campus building.

There will also be a class held in Waldport on January 11th (Friday) from 9 am to 4 pm at Our Savior Lutheran Church on Bayshore Road (NE side of the Alsea bridge)

Seniors, age 55 and older, may receive a multi-year discount on their auto insurance after completing this eight hour course. There are no tests.

The instructor will cover many topics, including the new driver and pedestrian laws, changes in vision and hearing as driver’s age and tips for handling these changes. Other information will be covered dealing with reaction times, driving in inclement weather, collisions and how to avoid them. There will be interesting video presentations and even more tips at helping all of us become better drivers.

Class size is limited, so reservations are recommended. You can register at: RSVP — 1-541-574-2684. There is a fee of $14 (to cover supplies). If you are an AARP member there is a $2 member discount. The check should be made out to AARP.
