What may have been a Thanksgiving party at a vacation rental house near Waldport turned dangerous Thursday afternoon as party go’ers gathered on an outside viewing deck at 2601 NW Parker Avenue, in Bayshore. As the group walked out onto the deck through a sliding glass door, they were struck by the beautiful sunset that was unfolding in front of them. Then suddenly the deck collapsed, sending everyone down 15 to 20 feet to the ground. The deck broke into pieces as it hit the ground, sending a number of people sprawling – reports saying one suffered a broken arm, another a fractured pelvis, another a head wound. There may have been others.
Two were transported by ground ambulance to the hospital in Newport. No official word yet on any other. Two hours after the incident the house was dark and locked with only the front porch light on.
Authorities are expected to investigate why the deck collapsed.
