A Newport resident was caught Friday on private forest property up Steensen Road armed with a firearm within easy range of a number of residences. A Sheriff’s deputy intercepted the 34-year old male who admitted that he managed to drive his vehicle around a locked gate. The deputy wrote the man a ticket for second degree trespass which is a Class C misdemeanor. Fine: $1,250.
